We'll use drums, voices, movement, as well as other
instruments. Participants age range has generally been anywhere from 10 to
70+. No prior musical experience is necessary and you do not have to be a
musician or drummer to attend these gatherings. Drumming is fun! Everyone can do
it and it's a great way to be together with others. Whenever a group of people
can come together and cooperate in creating an interactive, experiential musical
event, connections are made beyond the music produced. In doing so, our
community is strengthened and our world is a better place to live in. Come on
out to have an "in the moment experience of your own rhythmical spirit and
power" A large selection of hand drums and other assorted percussion instruments
will be available for you to play or feel free to bring your own.
I am a certified facilitator for cellist, David Darling's www.MusicForPeople.org It is a
workshop designed for learning the art of music improvisation.
Please notify in advance if you intend to participate.
Thanks!

Free the music inside your soul and allow it to take form
... as
Ron Kravitz presents Music in the
Moment, the Songs Within You:
Self expression through vocal & rhythm improvisation for
everyone!
Come explore and develop your creativity, in a fun, playful, safe and
inspiring environment, surrounded
by hundreds of instruments from around the world. We will engage
ourselves and each other in
a moment to moment exploration of our self expressions of sound. We
will
explore melody and song, with and without words, rhythms, in
and on our body, on our instrument, on drums, listening,
silence, conducting, ensemble expression, soloing, toning,
structured and unstructured improvisations, and numerous
other ways to express our musical nature.
Just show up with the intention of being open and
willing to engage with a playful spirit and to expect
the unexpected!
Musical self-expression is a joyful and healthy means of communication
available to absolutely
everyone. There are no “unmusical people”, only those with no musical
experience. Sincerely
expressed emotion is at the root of meaningful music expression. Your
music is more authentically
expressed when your body is involved in your musical expression. The
human voice is the most natural
and powerful vehicle for musical self-expression. The differences in our
voices add richness and
depth to our music. “Singing is the direct language of the soul,
available to all people regardless of
talent. It is a universally understood communication, beyond words, from
one body to another”.
Susan Osbourn. Any combination of people and instruments can make music
together.
The workshop being offered will be based on these premises and excerpts
from A Musical Bill of
Rights, by cellist David Darling and members of the Music For People
organization, of which I am a
faculty member.

1012 E. Southampton Ave. Wyndmoor, Pa. 19038

THE PHOENIXVILLE FIREBIRD FESTIVAL
On Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008
The Phoenix will burst into flame once again at the 5th Annual Firebird
Festival. Starting at 4 in the afternoon Phoenixville's Downtown District will
be transformed into a performance art venue with storytellers, choruses, dancers
and musicians; all performing and relating stories of Winter and of the Phoenix
- the mythical bird and namesake of Phoenixville.
Located along the 200 and 300 blocks of Bridge Street, the festivities
will take place in the Colonial Theatre, the Phoenix Village Art Center and
Steel City Coffee House, as well as in the parking lot next to the Justice
Building at 347 Bridge Street.
At the conclusion of the performances - in the Theatre, the Arts Center,
and Coffee House - a community Drum Ensemble accompanied by dancers will lead
festival goers in a procession down Bridge Street to the giant, wooden Firebird
sculpture just west of the Justice Building.
Two huge Peace birds - each carried by three people - will circle the
Firebird, followed by Fire spinners and dancers. At 8 PM the Fire Master -
selected by raffle to light the Firebird [tickets available at the event] will
be handed a torch and will then ignite the phoenix. As it burns, the Firebird
will act as a kiln and will fire a cache of clay birds hidden inside. These
birds - created weeks before by members of the community - will be exhibited at
the Phoenix Village Art Center February 6th thru March 4th . All of these
activities occur downtown (even the torching of the phoenix). It is truly
an amazing experience!
